It’s that time of year again. It’s time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished over the last 365 days and time to set goals for the upcoming year. But most of all, it’s time let your hair down, blow off some steam, and recharge for the start of 2019.

Everyone celebrates New Year’s Eve in his or her own way. However, it’s safe to say many people enjoy doing something a little different than what they would on a normal night out.

Here are three ways to spend your NYE near the Minneapolis area on December 31.

Join a Public Party

Almost every nightclub around the country has some sort of special event planned for New Year’s Eve, and those in Minneapolis are no different. If you still like getting crazy at clubs, you can check out Crystal Ball in the IDS Tower or Ritual NYE at the Calhoun Beach Club.

There are plenty of smaller public venues too if you aren’t into anything too wild but still prefer to be out and about. You can always enjoy some adult beverages without having to dive into the full club experience. For example, HopCat is throwing what they call New Beers Eve for craft beer lovers.

Have a Laugh

Maybe nightclubs and pubs aren’t for you. That’s OK. There’s still plenty of ways to enjoy your NYE.

Many Minnesotans like to let the magic of laughter lead them into the New Year. If that sounds like a good night out to you, you have a couple of great options.

The first is to enjoy the comedy of Derek Hughes at the Acme Comedy Company. There’s an 8:00 PM show as well as a 10:30 PM show, so you can choose what fits your schedule best.

Another option is Mo Years Eve. Mo Years Eve showcases comedy from Moe Alexander and Courtney Baka. They have two scheduled shows as well: 8:00 PM and 10:30 PM. But, the latter includes a midnight champagne toast.

Bond with Your Children

Not every New Year’s Eve activity has to be an adult’s only affair. There are special events that are family friendly too.

For instance, asking your kids to stay awake until midnight might be a big ask, especially depending on how old they are. But, the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is hosting the Noon Year’s Eve Confetti Dance Party that’s perfect for younger aged children. Best of all, it still leaves Mom and Dad’s night open.

Edinborough Park in Edina is an indoor play park. It’s a great place to take the kids any day of the year, and especially when you want somewhere warm to hang out during the cold Minnesota winter. However, on New Year’s Eve this year, they are throwing a NYE pre-party with plenty of kid’s activities including a DJ The pre-party starts at 5:00 PM and runs to 9:00 PM.

In Summary

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. And, whether you’re looking for a late night out on the town or something family friendly, there are plenty of options for residents of the Minneapolis and St. Paul areas.
