When hunger pangs set in, you’ll find no shortage of eateries where you can satiate those tummy growls in Minneapolis. From five-star restaurants to food trucks, the City of Lakes offers plenty of dining experiences; but if you’re looking for more of a laid-back, mom-and-pop setting where the menus offer an endless array of cuisine, than a diner is the place you’re going to want to head to.

Luckily, there are some pretty amazing diners in Minneapolis and the following three are the best of the best in many visitors’ opinions.

Eggy’s Minneapolis Diner

Located at 120 14th Street West, Eggy’s is offers an incredible dining experience.

With a name like Eggy’s, you might think that this diner only serves breakfast dishes. But, don’t let the name fool you. They serve a whole lot more than eggs!

Actually, here’s a fun fact: the diner wasn’t named for the quintessential breakfast dish; it was actually coined after Robert Mallin, the childhood friend of David Carlins, the President of Magellan Development. He was affectionately called Eggy when he was a kid because, as he says, his head was shaped much like an egg!

Of course, the diner serves up plenty of egg dishes as well as other breakfast fare, including pancakes, waffles, French toast, and crepes. The menu also features a variety of sandwiches, which are totally to die for, as well soups and salads. Their kid’s menu will be sure to satisfy the youngest diners, too.

The Hi-Lo Diner

An another one of Minneapolis’ best diners, you’ll feel like you’re eating the food you’re grandmother made at the Hi-Lo Diner. This nostalgic eatery, which is located at 4020 East Lake Street, features a classic Americana, 1950s-inspired theme, so you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported into the past the second you step food inside the doors.

The menu pays homage to this classic time period too, like Biscuits and Gravy, the Gary Cooper (chicken fried in buttermilk and served with maple-bourbon syrup and gravy), and the Velvet Elvis (peanut butter, honey, bacon, and Banana, a favorite of the King of Rock and Roll!). No matter what you order, your taste buds will surely be tickled!

Our Kitchen

Head over to 813 West 36th Street and you’ll find Our Kitchen, a cozy diner that prides itself on serving the “best breakfast you’ve ever had”. Breakfast items include eggs prepared any way you’d like, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and incredible breakfast sandwiches, such as egg and cheese and a Denver.

Our Kitchen also serves delicious lunch dishes, such as a steak sandwich, a grilled cheese, burgers, a filet of fish sandwich, and a classic BLT among others! The menu may not be as extensive as other Minneapolis diners, but we promise, the food is simply incredible as is the atmosphere!

Whether you live in Minneapolis or you’re visiting the city, stop by one of these diners and there’s no doubt that you’ll find something to please your palate.
